Lesson: Snack Track
Duration:  25 minutes
Grade Level: Intermediate (3rd – 5th Grade)

Goals and Objectives

To experience the roles of both predator and prey through a game of hiding and searching

Materials and Resources

A variety of uncooked pasta (rotini, bowties, macaroni, etc), snacks for the whole class.

Instructional Sequence

Divide children into six teams, half the teams are “prey,” the other half are “predators.”  Each prey team has five minutes to hide a snack, leaving a trail for one of the predator teams to follow. (give each prey team a different kind of dry pasta.)  When the prey have completed their task, assign each team of predators one trail to follow.  The predators should find the snacks and bring them back to the whole group.  Change the predators to prey and the prey to predators.  Play again.   Make sure trail markers get picked up.

Closing

Share a whole group snack and discuss the game.

Tick check after leaving Ballard Park.
